Logitech Blue Soda

I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Logitech Blue Sona microphone, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. As a podcaster and broadcaster, I'm always on the lookout for high-end active dynamic microphones, and the Blue Sona definitely fits the bill.

For starters, the Blue Sona is an XLR dynamic microphone with a frequency range of 40Hz to 18,000Hz, which means it can capture a wide range of audio frequencies. It requires either 24 or 48 volts of phantom power to operate, so you'll need to make sure you have the right equipment to use it. The Blue Sona is priced at $349, which is similar to the classic Shure SM7B, a popular choice among broadcasters.

In terms of design, the Blue Sona has a really sleek and industrial look, with rounded edges and an all-metal body (except for a screw on the side). It comes in both black and white, and even comes with a boom arm called the Blue Compass that's designed to be eye-catching on camera. Logitech specifically markets the Blue Sona as a broadcast microphone, but they've also included gamers in their marketing due to the mic's non-traditional appearance.

One of the things I love most about the Blue Sona is its sound. It has a warm and smooth quality that's perfect for voiceover work and podcasting, but it may not be as versatile for music recording. It has a cardioid pickup pattern and a switchable high-pass filter and pad, which are great for reducing background noise and eliminating unwanted frequencies.

Overall, I'd say the Logitech Blue Sona is a top-quality microphone with a unique design that's well-suited for certain applications. While it may not offer anything new compared to the Shure SM7B, it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a high-end active dynamic microphone. So, it is a good choice for podcasters and broadcasters.
